God Has Made Himself Knowable

“So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD.His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain,Like the spring rain watering the earth.” – Hosea 6:3
One of the most important truths Scripture teaches us about God is this: God is not hiding from us. He is not distant, silent, or unwilling to be known. From the beginning, God has taken the initiative to reveal Himself to His people.
Throughout the Old Testament, God made Himself known through His law—His commands, covenants, and promises. He revealed His character, His priorities, and His ways. The apostle Paul tells us that creation itself speaks of God’s power and glory. And the apostle John reminds us that in Jesus Christ, God has revealed Himself fully and personally. God is knowable because He has chosen to make Himself known.
That is what makes Hosea 6:3 so striking. Israel says, “Let us know; let us press on to know the LORD.” The problem was not that Israel lacked information about God. They knew His faithfulness. They knew He was dependable “as the dawn.” They knew He would come “like the rain.” What they lacked was a consistent response to what they already knew.
To “know” the Lord in this passage is more than awareness—it carries the idea of acknowledgment. It means recognizing God’s ways and allowing that truth to shape everyday life. Israel remembered God’s faithfulness in theory, but they failed to live in light of it. They treated God’s mercy as predictable rather than precious.
This same danger exists today. We live in a time of unprecedented access to Scripture, teaching, and spiritual resources. Yet it is possible to know a great deal about God while rarely acknowledging Him in daily decisions. Familiarity can quietly replace intimacy. Exposure can take the place of obedience.
Hosea reminds us that growth in knowing God does not happen automatically. It requires intention. It requires pressing on—returning again and again to what God has already revealed and choosing to live accordingly.
God has made Himself known. The question is not whether He is speaking, but whether we are listening—and responding—on His terms.
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”— A. W. Tozer
Closing Reflection Prayer
Father, thank You for making Yourself known. You have spoken through Your Word, revealed Your power in creation, and shown Your heart through Jesus Christ. Forgive me for the times I have been content with knowing about You instead of truly knowing You. Teach me to acknowledge You in my daily life and to respond faithfully to what You have revealed. I want to press on in knowing You. Amen.
Until Next Time, Stay Strong in the Lord!
